What is Amherst Neighbors

Our MISSION is to build neighbor to neighbor connections, provide access to information and services, and empower elders to maintain socially engaged lives while aging at home. We do this through a variety of virtual social and educational opportunities. As state guidelines change, we look forward to offering volunteer services and in person activities. 

Our VISION is to create an inclusive community where elders live engaged and meaningful lives. We believe in reciprocity and interdependence. Everyone has something to give and we all get by giving. Interdependence means we need each other to thrive and survive in our homes and communities. 

Our VALUES are compassion, connection, inclusion, respect, and community. Our members come from all backgrounds and live in a variety of home settings, from homes, living with family members, or even independent living communities.

What We Offer

Membership in Amherst Neighbors entitles you to participate in virtual programs, events and interest groups. You can also suggest and access lists of member-recommended professional service providers.

If you are 55+ and live in Amherst or Pelham, you are eligible for volunteer services. Our current services are "COVID safe" and include things like curb side pick up from the grocery store or pharmacy, other errands, dog walking, light yard work or gardening, virtual support with Zoom, devices, and computers, and walking companions. And, some volunteers offer to be walking companions. We also offer neighborly visits, transportation and in person technical help with computers, remotes, cell phones, and tablets.
