ABOUT THE AMHERST NEIGHBORS’ BOARD OPPORTUNITY
The mission of Amherst Neighbors is to build neighbor to neighbor connections, provide access to services and information, and empower elders to maintain socially engaged lives while aging at home. We are a member-led, no-fee, non-profit organization that is currently focusing on virtual programs and events that support older adults in expanding their community during this COVID stay-at-home time. People may join as members, volunteers or both. Following CDC guidelines and our judgment to be safe during COVID-19, we assess our environment to be safe and offer services to members 55 and older in Amherst and Pelham.
We are currently a Board of 7 members. We are holding elections to expand our Board membership by adding 2 to 5 new members. New Board members will be announced during our annual Meeting in December 2022 and their term of office will begin January 1, 2023.
The values of compassion, connection, inclusion, respect and community underpin our activities and decision-making processes. We seek nominees who reflect the diversity of our community in representation, perspectives, skills and experiences. We invite nominations in the spirit of inclusivity and the recognition that diversity strengthens us.
BOARD MEMBER ROLES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND BENEFITS
Role: The Board determines, implements, and reflects the AN vision, mission, and values, provides financial oversight, conducts fundraising, represents and advocates for the organization in the relevant communities, provides leadership for committees, ensures legal compliance, and monitors its own effectiveness.
